Registering a visual impairment
If you have substantial and permanent vision loss in both eyes you may wish to register as blind or partially sighted. Registration simply means having your name added to a confidential list of people who have a permanent sight loss. Keeping this register allows your Local Authority to meet the needs of people with visual impairments. Registration is entirely voluntary, but it is required for certain financial benefits and consensus. Your Eye Consultant will be able to say if you are medically eligible and then certify you using approved documentation, which will then be sent to your Local Authority for recording.
